Who is the greatest? Story
As usual, King in the mood of asking questions. He asked a courtier a question, “Tell me….who is the greatest Lord Indra or me?”
“Lord, Indra, Your majesty,” immediately came the reply.
“How dare you say that?” King Akbar got angry. He asked the next courtier, “Who is the greatest Lord Indra or me?”
“You are greater than him. In fact, you are the greatest, Your Majesty,” the second courtier said.
“Well, then prove it to me,” the King challenged.
Just when the courtier was getting nervous at the challenge, Birbal entered the court. He had heard what had happened.
He offered, “It is very easy to prove, Your Majesty. In fact, even Lord Brahma faced this dilemma. He had ordered two idols to be made - one of yours and the other of Lord Indra. Then the idols were placed in the heavenly scale to see which was larger and greater. As your idol was heavier, the idol came towards the Earth, but as Lord Indra’s idol was light, he went up towards Heaven. So it is that he rules Heaven and you are the Emperor of the Earth.”
King Akbar was impressed by Birbal’s words and burst out laughing.
