Swept Away Story
Once Birbal accompanied King Akbar on a visit to a village. The King wanted to learn if all the villagers were well or not. He wanted to find out who was needy. As they neared the village, they saw a man walking down the street.
King Akbar started to enquire, “What’s your name?”
“Jamuna,” came the reply.
“What’s your brother’s name?”
“Narmada.”
“What is your mother called?”
“Saraswati”
“What do call your wife?”
“Ganga.”
Birbal could not control himself.
He said, “Please stop right there. Any more rivers you mention, we will be swept away. Wait till I arrange for a boat to row across.”
Hearing this, the villager and King Akbar could not stop laughing.
